Natural Statistics of Infants' Auditory Environment Project

1. Open target formatted transcript file

2. Open MLUw_template file from Path: Elmlinger_Weiss/data/transcript_data/template/MLUw_template.xlsx

   • Save the template file with the following naming convention and save path

     Path: Elmlinger_Weiss/data/transcript_data/MLUw_files/

     Name: s#_MLUw.xlsx (replace s# with the subject number)

3. Copy transcript column from the For_MLUw tab of formatted transcript file to new excel file

   • Name the tab 'raw_data'

   • Create a new tab called 'working'

   • Paste the transcript into 'working' again and this time remove the blank cells:

   • Remove any blank cells

4. In the second column, count the words in each cell using the excel formula below:

   =IF(LEN(TRIM(A1))=0,0,LEN(TRIM(A1))-LEN(SUBSTITUTE(A1," ",""))+1)

5. Work through the document, checking for errors within the transcript and the excel algorithm.

   • Delete everything in the delete category in MLUw Manual document.

   • Cut and paste any parent modeling/recasting into the third column of the MLUw excel file (parent modeling will not be counted towards MLUw)

   • Remove MLUw count formula from any corresponding (voc)* cell.

   • If (voc)* occur interleaved with other parents' speech, delete the (voc)*
