Context Analysis

It's 2020 and the IoT Hackathon at the Hermann Hollerith Zentrum looks into a utopian future that offers the chance to eliminate media breaks in the era of Internet of Things. In a world of growing food delivery services, many manual steps are still required to order food and enjoy it on the sofa at home.

As-Is Analysis

The current process for ordering food via a delivery service is described below:

Idea Generation

In the following, our Living Lab Process, we assessed the current situation and went into brainstorming of how IoT can solve our media breaks, that we are surrounded with. We have developed the following five ideas for the development of a digital service using IoT devices:

  • Idea 1: Nutrition advice service Delivery everywhere suited to your diet. Your food will be delivered to you by us as your supplier, wherever you are. We make sure that you stick to your diet and that you get food at the optimal time and without extra effort. Depending on the progress of your diet and activities, your meal plan will be adjusted.

  • Idea 2: Home-Table-Food delivery service You are a busy person and wish you did not have to worry about your dinner. You prefer to eat right after you come home from work. But what do you want to eat? Home Table Delivery will make suggestions and analyze your fitness data, calendar, and geolocation. Based on your behavior, Alexa's suggested meal will be on the table when you get home!

  • Idea 3: Food ordering by voice With the help of the Smart Fridge, you can check what food is available in the fridge at home and then order it directly from Alexa from the corresponding / desired supplier (classic delivery service controlled by Alexa)

  • Idea 4: Pre-ordered breakfast Preparing breakfast always takes a long time. Especially in the morning, you are usually pressed for time. Therefore it would be a relief if the breakfast rolls could be pre-ordered the evening before via language assistants. The rolls are then on your doorstep the next morning.

  • Idea 5: Automatic reordering of food A supermarket automatically fills up your fridge with food. Based on your calendar and your regular consumption, a forecast is made of how much you will need in the coming weeks and it is delivered to your fridge.

Idea Ranking

In the following, we wanted do have a brief feedback, what idea is most feasible to consumers. Therefore, we started a ranking on sli.do, which ideas are most relevant to consumers. Potential consumers ranked ideas in our social environment.

As an outcome, the idea two has been ranked as most relevant to our customers.

Idea 2 ("Home-Table-Food delivery service") has been selected as a research object for the focus in Co-Creation and Exploration Phase:
