The Renaissance Engineer
Your career is more than a growing pile of technical skill. These pages give you two ways to track and drive the rest: the four-stage career model and the Leadership, Business, Interpersonal, and Technical (LBIT) development framework. They also show what it costs when the non-technical dimensions are neglected, using my own lone-wolf habit and how it got corrected, and how mentoring carries development from stage to stage, using the story of one mentored tool that became a company-wide standard and then a patent.
| Page | Description |
|---|---|
| Technical Career Stages | The Apprentice → Colleague → Expert → Sponsor model |
| Setting and Accomplishing Development Goals | The LBIT framework, and building a balanced development plan |
| Teammates or Competitors? | The story behind the LBIT framework — how treating classmates as competition built a lone-wolf habit, and how feedback and balanced development plans corrected it |
| Mentoring Integration with Stage Development | How mentoring evolves across a career, including the "Sliced Bread" case study |
| From "Sliced Bread" to Patent | The fuller version of that case study — how a mentored Real Time Optimization (RTO) tool became a 12-inventor, issued U.S. patent |
