1875: Original Zayante vineyard planted, but vines were uprooted during Prohibition.
After years as an apple orchard and cattle ranch:
1984: Land purchased by the Nolten family. Greg Nolten and Kathleen Starkey planted the current vines by hand on their own roots. Vines were watered for only one year, then dry-farmed since.
1988: Zayante winery bonded.
The 18-acre Zayante Estate Vineyard near Felton (west of Highway 17, south of Summit Road) produced estate-bottled Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and Zinfandel, plus a blend called Clos Du Z (Grenache, Petite Sirah, and Syrah).
January 2021: Greg Nolten passed away.
2024: Vineyard acquired by Charles and Sarah Liang, renamed Green Earth. Continues to supply grapes to regional winemakers.
