Paul Romero, a California native who worked in Silicon Valley tech for 20 years in Technical Support Management, and Stefania Romero, who has an accounting background, were laid off during the dotcom boom and bust. This gave them the opportunity to pursue winemaking.

They took part-time oenology and viticulture courses at UC Davis and planted a small vineyard in their garden. They also took on management of other home vineyards.

2005: First vintage, released to local restaurants and wine shops. Founded Stefania Wine.

2005-2014: Operated from San Jose location (564 Canton Drive). Stefania managed Chaine d'Or vineyard for several years and made wine at that facility.

2014: Relocated to rural foothills outside Gilroy (1800 Day Road).

2015: Opened small tasting room in a converted garage on the property.

Paul handles winemaking and vineyard work, while Stefania manages business operations. Both are involved in all aspects of production.

Produces small-lot wines from select local vineyards.
