Mountain View Vintners was established in 1978 as one of California's first négociant wineries. (A négociant is theFrenchterm for awinemerchant who assembles the produce of smaller growers and winemakers and sells the result under its own name. Négociants may buy anything fromgrapesand juice to wines in various states of completion. The wines are blended and the result is sold under the name of the négociant.) The winery sources fruit from Monterey, Amador, Carneros, Lake County and the Central Coast. The wines are all made, aged and bottled at the Guglielmowinery in Morgan Hill.

Mountain View has a number of sister labels, including Clockspring and Morningsun Vineyards. They also offer a private label service, which allows retailers and restaurants to offer their own label wines. They have established a reputation for good, inexpensive wines.
