Background

When the Mirassoufamily sold the brand name to E&J Gallo in 2002 they did not sell the old winery or their vineyards. Instead they embarked on a new project under the "La Rochelle" banner, producing Central Coast Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Merlot. However the ever increasing land prices in Silicon Valley meant it did not make economic sense to the family for them to continue, so in September 2005 they sold the brand to their cousin Steven Kent Mirassou, who owns the Steven Kent Winery in Livermore with the intention of redeveloping the land for housing.
