Born in Connecticut to two psychologists. Unconventional path to winemaking:

• Remote Alaska
• Peace Corps in Ecuador
• Various jobs including pool boy and Olympic staffer
• Early 2000s: Low-wage job at Bonny Doon turned into formative cellar education
• Sharpened craft under California Rhône pioneers at Big Basin
• Worked alongside legends of Santa Cruz Mountains

Driven by belief in untapped potential of overlooked coastal regions, especially Monterey County. Focus on site-driven, honest wines reflecting soil and sea.

• 2018: San Francisco Chronicle Winemaker of the Year

Built winery from scratch in warehouse in Salinas. Known for improvising equipment, grueling harvest schedules, and championing young talent. Gritty independence, artistic flair, touch of chaos.

Musician - plays music with Vince (Lead Ambassador at I. Brand) since 2016.
