History

Vine Hill Vineyard, on Jarvis Road has continuously had grapes since 1863. During the 1960s it was was owned by David Bruce and was planted to some very old Zinfandel vines that were not producing much. David Bruce had the vineyard replanted to Pinot Noir in 1969/1970 before eventually selling the property to Ken Burnap, who founded Santa Cruz Mountain Vineyardin 1974.

In 2003 Ken retired from the business. He sold the business, equipment and inventory to Jeff Emery, who had been part of the winery since 1979, but Jeff couldn't afford the vineyards and properties too; they were bought by Nick Guerrero who renamed the property Vine Hill Vineyards. The 30+ year old Pinot vines have since been replanted.

Vine Hill Winery produce Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah from various sources which are currently marketed under the label "Gatos Locos" (Crazy Cats). A high-end brand called Cumbre, which will be exclusively Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir is understood to be in the works.
