Overview
Farm Cottage Wines founded by Ryan Alfaro in 2019. Ryan is the son of Richard and Mary Kay Alfaro of Alfaro Family Vineyards. He is currently head winemaker at Alfaro Family Vineyards while producing his own label.
Winemaker Background
Ryan Alfaro grew up on his parents' vineyard in Santa Cruz Mountains. Studied Environmental Studies and Geography at UCLA. Studied abroad in Dijon, France through UC Davis Viticulture and Enology program. Completed Post-Graduate degree in Wine Science at University of Auckland, New Zealand. Worked a vintage under winemaker Adam Tolmach before returning to become head winemaker at Alfaro Family Vineyards.
History
The "Farm Cottage" label refers to a cottage built over 100 years ago from heart redwood on the property. In 1997, Richard and Mary Kay Alfaro purchased the property and remodeled the cottage while preserving its original design and using heart redwood for the exterior. Ryan's grandparents lived in the cottage for 20 years. After completing his graduate degree in New Zealand, Ryan moved into the Farm Cottage.
