Personalized Memory: Equipping WordSmith with Persistent Knowledge - samwega/obsidian-wordsmith GitHub Wiki

Persona Definitions: If you often ask the AI to adopt a specific role (e.g., “Act as a skeptical reviewer,” “Explain this as if to a 5-year-old”), define the core attributes of that persona in a dedicated note.

Link in Custom Context: When you want WordSmith to access this information, simply add a wikilink to your memory note (e.g., [ProjectAlphaMemory](/samwega/obsidian-wordsmith/wiki/ProjectAlphaMemory)) in the Custom Context box within the WordSmith side panel. Make sure Custom Context is toggled on. The entire content of your memory note will then inform the AI’s responses for that session.

Formatting Your Memory Note for Best Results:

While free-form text works, using structured formats helps the AI parse and utilize information more effectively:

  • *Key-Value Pairs: Suitable for specific directives.
    • Tone: Professional yet engaging
    • Audience: Tech-savvy beginners
    • Key Acronym: "WAI" stands for "WordSmith AI Initiative"
  • Bulleted Lists: Useful for do’s and don’ts, terminology, or style guidelines.
    • Always capitalize 'WordSmith'.
    • Avoid passive voice where possible.
    • Preferred citation style: APA 7th.
  • Headings for Organization: Use Markdown headings (#, ##, ###) to organize different types of information or contexts within a larger memory note.
    • # General Writing Style
    • ## Project X Guidelines
    • ### Terminology for Project X

By linking and refining such memory notes over time, you enable WordSmith to better align with your unique requirements and context. This reduces the need to repeat instructions in individual prompts, making the AI a more responsive, consistent, and truly personalized writing partner.
