Radical Candor - Kim Scott

In our leadership meetings at work we discussed the first few chapters as a group. We asked each other where we sit on the RC framework that is a matrix of "Care Personally" and "Challenge Directly."

My two quotes/takeaways that I liked were:

  • "Avoid creating tension or discomfort at work."
  • "Being nice is prioritized at expense of critiquing."

At this point in my career I think I am on that "Ruinous Empathy" which is OK. Moving to the right towards "Radical Candor" can be defined by getting past those two quotes above. I am working on not prioritizing getting my teammates to like me over being open and honest with constructive criticism.
