1.1 Motivation
This project proposes a self-defense device in order to prevent the problems faced by women. The safety and security of a woman can never be at rest as it is a major concern today. The list of crimes against women is quite long-Acid attacks, sexual assault, molestation, marital abuse, all this is becoming very normal in various parts of the country. To help resolve this issue we are implementing a device specially designed for women in distress to allow them to protect themselves. The device basically helps the woman to call for help and intimates instant location to her family member. The device serves as a self-help system to protect women. Hence we have named our device ”Swaraksha” which means self-help to build the women’s courage and assist her to face many difficult situations without feeling helpless.
1.2 Objectives
- To understand the problems faced by the women and to develop a device that can make them feel safe and protected in any situation of discomfort.
- Explore different design alternatives and build an efficient prototype.
- Simulate the circuit with all the components integrated together.
- Hardware implementation of the proposed device.
- Testing the functionality of the device for inputs from switches and sensors.
1.3 Literature survey
1] The paper presents a women's safety device using GSM and GPS modems. This messaging and detection system consists of a GPS, Arduino board, and GSM Module. GPS receives the location from the satellites. This information is in the form of latitude and longitude. The Arduino board processes this information and then sends it to the user using the GSM module. When any woman is in danger, she can press the button then the entire system will be activated and SMS will be sent to the concerned person along with location using the integrated functioning of the GSM and GPS modules.
2] The paper presents a smart system to monitor patient’s current health conditions, based on GSM and GPS. The main objective of this paper is to trace, track, and monitor patients' 9 continuous readings in order to provide efficient medical services quickly. Using required sensors, the data will be captured and compared with a predefined threshold value. The study also focuses on body temperature and heartbeat rate thus in case of emergency an SMS will be sent to the doctor's mobile containing measured values and position or location.
3] This paper describes a vehicle tracking system that consists of an ATMega16 microcontroller, GPS, and GSM integrated modules. The device uses a 9V DC power supply. GPS module gets the location information from the satellites in the form of latitude and longitude values. The microcontroller processes this information and sends it to the GSM modem. The GSM modem then sends the information to the owner’s mobile phone.
4] Ladies’ security is a basic issue in present-day and age and it’s especially required for each person to be acting consciously over such an important issue. This paper depicts a GSM, GPS, and Zapper Circuit-based ladies’ security network that uses a GPS gadget particular to track the area and in addition gives alarm and messages to catch trigger, it is a useful device during the situation of combat. It additionally includes a stunning instrument to create non-deadly electric stun in crisis circumstances and hence acts as a defensive weapon to face situations of combat.
5] This paper proposes a design for women's safety devices comprised of a fingerprint scanner to activate the device, a shock wave generator for self-defense, a GSM module for sending and alert messages, a buzzer for alerting the environment. The paper presents the prototype of a smart device for women's safety, it proves to be efficient during the situation of danger to react and generate quick help.
1.4 Problem statement
To build a women's safety device using an emergency button and sensors, which on activation ends an alert message with Google map location to the women’s family member and to the emergency contacts to rescue the women in need.
1.5 Application in Societal Context
Our project mainly aims to reduce the social challenges and crimes faced by women in society. The device we propose shall make the women in the society feel safe and confident to walk alone at any time. The idea is to generate quick help and protect the victim. Therefore it helps to avoid many violent crimes against women. The device uses multiple inputs from the switch as well as the sensors and does not compromise in its task of generating immediate help. The self-help device we have designed will build the women’s strength to face difficult situations with courage and with the hope that somebody will soon be there to reach her and protect her.
