Bad design:

Alphabet

People prob had to learn the alphabet aside from Chinese characters for pinyin. Why differ in the pronunciation? For example 'c' sounds like 't' instead. Makes it inconvenient later to learn popular languages like English(even Spanish only partially do 'th')

Annoying characters:

Characters with many strokes are not necessarily the most annoying, though likely. The most annoying of them come from the fact that the components are really hard to squeeze into one:

Composition

醒(xing sober) may be as related to 日 (day) and 生(life) as "understand" relates to "under" or "stand". However, in alphabet language, you have virtually limitless space to perform composition, eg: Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis Whether in Chinese, it gets more and more difficult as you try to shove more characters into one while trying to keep the parts recognizable, eg: 雾(mist)/繁(rich) - it's nowhere near the characters with the most number of strokes however it's quite annoying trying to keep the parts in shapes. On the computer, you can't scan them mentally partially like alphabet composition where you can mentally discard the prefixes as you pass through them. There is physically a limit to this method of composition.

Indexing, Sorting

When you have a list of words, it's almost impossible to find if a certain value is there with human senses. You can't sort and jump the way alphabet languages behave. You'll know the words when you see them, however, it's extremely difficult to jump to their proximity among other words. There are ways to index Chinese chars but none would be effective at this.
