Q.) How many kids do you get per day?
- ~10 with drop-in days and 3 scheduled/4 drop-ins other days
Q.) What are the most common questions that students ask?
- What classes should I sign up for?
- How can I drop this class?
- I'm failing this class, what should I do?
Q.) What types of students normally meet with you?
- Sciences (Chemistry, Biology, Physics)
Q.) What's tough about students with different majors coming to you?
- Too many tabs open.
- Degree guide is awkward to read.
- They have to have 2 monitors to display all of the information.
Q.) What tools do you use to help students with registration?
- Degree Guide
- The student's major website which lists the requirements
Q.) Can you walk us through your process of advising a student?
- Pull up students transcript and degree guide on DuckWeb
- Find student's major website
- Each website is set up differently, so this can be a difficult task
- She tried multiple links before finding the correct page
- Inspect degree guide to see which of the requirements the student hasn't completed
- Suggest a schedule to the student
- Some can handle a more difficult schedule while others require a more balanced one
Q.) What do you want from a software?
- Want it to be easier to read
- Want to have a lot of information displayed on one screen and to be easily accessible
- Duckweb requires "a lot of clicking" to access student information
- Built in major checklist.
