Lab02 AD‐DS - rosepheobieshea/SYS-255-Tech-Journal GitHub Wiki

For this lab I had to configure an Active Directory Domain Service with Windows Server 2019. First I had to enable ADDS in Windows services and promote the machine to the primary domain controller. Then, I had to add a DNS record so that the server can resolve the hostname for my firewall to the correct IP address. Next, I created two new domain accounts. The first account is non-privileged and cannot administer the domain, while the second account I added to the Domain Admins group which allows that account to administer the domain. After I finished the very lengthy setup of my ADDS server, I could then join my workstation to the domain. To do this I first changed my workstation's DNS server to the ADDS server so that the workstation can use the DNS records I generated earlier. Next I added my workstation to the domain.

Adding a workstation to a domain

  1. Goto Control Panel> System and Security> System Properties
  2. Click the Change button next to "To rename this computer or change its domain..."
  3. Select the Domain button instead of the Workgroup button and enter the appropriate domain name (in my case "rose").
