It is executed automatically if not disabled in the production order or in the Configuration Wizard. The latest possible start date is calculated without consideration of existing work orders. This also applies to routing level. The dates given there are always based on "latest possible". If overlaps exist, they are taken into account. No correct date for planning is calculated. In terms of lead time calculation and consideration of a pure backward scheduling results are correct. For this reason, the specified times serve only as guidelines and may not be used for planning.

If a proper planning is required, it is necessary to use the APS. A calculation of correct times is possible only by forward scheduling. If the calculation of the latest possible start date with correct times for starting and finishing, a combined forward/backward scheduling is possible using the APS. Only the APS takes into account time and material reservations. The APS is not made for the graphical display, but mainly for a quick and simple calculation of the start / finish times of work sequences and hence for the determination of the material requirement date.
