Overview

Terms:

  • Trigger: the event or condition that initiates the start of your automation
    • Example: An introductory lead email goes 14 days without a response
  • Action: the task or series of tasks performed when your automation is triggered
    • Example: Sending a follow-up email to an unresponsive lead
  • Variable: Information that flows between each step of your workflow
    • Example: A predetermined variable might be the generic email body contained in a follow-up message to a cold lead. A variable dependent on the trigger might be the unique, company-specific heading of each email

Types of triggers

Time-based

  • Time-based triggers are set up to run automatically, saving you time and keeping your workflow consistent
  • Time-based types:
    • Set time schedule
    • Calendar/Event based
    • Misc.: weather,

App-based

Tips:

  1. Select "Event" based on how much you want to automate vs human-in-the-loop, like adding emails to a to-do list, or turning weblinks from slack into blog posts
  2. Determine the "App" or "Event" based on how wide or narrow your use case, like creating a new customer profile from an online purchase
  3. Determine the "App" or "Event" based on inputs you get to start with
