Overview
Terms:
- Trigger: the event or condition that initiates the start of your automation
- Example: An introductory lead email goes 14 days without a response
- Action: the task or series of tasks performed when your automation is triggered
- Example: Sending a follow-up email to an unresponsive lead
- Variable: Information that flows between each step of your workflow
- Example: A predetermined variable might be the generic email body contained in a follow-up message to a cold lead. A variable dependent on the trigger might be the unique, company-specific heading of each email
Types of triggers
Time-based
- Time-based triggers are set up to run automatically, saving you time and keeping your workflow consistent
- Time-based types:
- Set time schedule
- Calendar/Event based
- Misc.: weather,
App-based
Tips:
- Select "Event" based on how much you want to automate vs human-in-the-loop, like adding emails to a to-do list, or turning weblinks from slack into blog posts
- Determine the "App" or "Event" based on how wide or narrow your use case, like creating a new customer profile from an online purchase
- Determine the "App" or "Event" based on inputs you get to start with
