What is a Network?
The dictionary definition of a network is, "a group or system of interconnected people or things." One example of a network is a social network. Facebook is a tool used for social networking because it's a way people can communicate and socialize with each other, but social networking can also exist in the form of parties. Computer networking is when computers are able to communicate with each other. For this document, we will be using the term, "Network" to refer to the networking of the Internet of Things (IoT) devices which includes, but is not limited to, devices such as sensors, computers, radio devices, and routers.
IP Addresses
There are IPv4 addresses and IPv6 addresses, but we will only focus on IPv4 addresses as the majority of users have not converted to IPv6 yet. IP addresses are 32-bit numbers used to assign a network device with a unique number within its network. In Figure 1, three different devices are within the 10.10.10.0 network and all three devices have their own unique address.
