Update a Dataset - resource-watch/ocean-watch-data GitHub Wiki
Updating datasets
Datasets on Ocean Watch should be evaluated at least twice a year to ensure the assets are kept up-to-date. Refer to the Latest Check
and Last Update
columns of the RW Data Tracking Spreadsheet. Evaluate all datasets with Ocean Watch
in Project
column. If you determine a dataset needs to be updated, refer to the Update Strategy
to determine the type of workflow needed. Consult the Update data section of the RW Data Workflow Manual for detailed steps for published datasets. The Github Link
column should direct you to the appropriate README.md
with more details on the processing required to update the data.
Updating linked resources
After updating a dataset you may need to update the layers of a map widget, or the queries in a chart widget or indicators. Please see the wiki page for each resource for more information on how to update them.
Updating the Ocean Watch JSON
Finally, if updating a dataset involved creating any new resources (new datasets, layers, widgets), make sure these changes are updated in the JSON.
note: many of the Ocean Watch datasets have not been updated since the launch of the site in November 2021. The first update will likely uncover bugs in workflows and scripts that were written an run on the author's local machine
