Wavie Power
In development. Wavie Power is not for sale and has no release date or price. This page describes the current board design, which will change before anything ships.
Wavie Power is a switched power strip for the equipment around a reef tank. It connects to Wavie over the CAN bus, so the outlets can act on what Wavie measures.
The current Wavie Power board design (render).
What the board does
| Outlets | 8 standard US three-prong outlets, each switched on its own |
| Switching | One relay per outlet (Omron G5LE, 5 V coil), driven through a ULN2803A eight-channel driver |
| Mains in | IEC C14 inlet, for a detachable power cord |
| Processor | STM32G0 microcontroller |
| Network | CAN bus, through an SN65HVD230 transceiver |
| CAN ports | 6, each with its own resettable fuse on the 24 V line |
| Low-voltage power | 24 V regulated on the board to 5 V and 3.3 V, the same arrangement as Wavie's main board |
| Indicators | Status LEDs, and a header for an addressable RGB light strip |
| Service | Reset button and a programming header |
Outlets and relays
Each outlet has its own relay, so any combination can be on or off. Each relay switches the power to its outlet; the microcontroller drives their coils through the ULN2803A, which also protects it from the coils' switching spikes.
A hub for other devices
The six CAN connectors let Wavie Power act as a hub: Wavie and other ReefMetrics devices can plug into it rather than being chained one behind another. Each connector's 24 V line has its own resettable fuse, so a fault on one cable cannot take down the others.
What it is for
The plan is for Wavie Power to switch equipment on a schedule and in response to readings, for example:
- on a timer, such as lights or a refugium;
- on temperature, such as a heater or a fan;
- on pH;
- for top-off (ATO);
- a feed mode that pauses pumps for a set time.
These features are planned and have not been built.
