Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) for Companion

Effective Date: June 1, 2024

1. Introduction

This Acceptable Use Policy ("Policy") outlines the acceptable behaviors and practices for using the Companion bot ("Bot") on Discord. By using the Bot, you agree to comply with this Policy. Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in the suspension or termination of your access to the Bot.

2. User Eligibility

• Age Requirement: You must be at least 13 years old to use the Bot. No exceptions to this age requirement will be made. Accounts found to be in violation of this policy will be permanently banned by Discord.

3. Prohibited Activities

You agree not to engage in any of the following prohibited activities while using the Bot:

1. Harassment and Abuse: Engaging in any form of harassment, bullying, or abusive behavior towards other users as defined by Discord.

2. Inappropriate Content: Sharing, promoting, or engaging in the distribution of content that is obscene, vulgar, sexually explicit, hateful, threatening, or otherwise objectionable, in accordance with Discord’s Community Guidelines.

3. Spam and Misleading Content: Sending unsolicited promotional messages (spam), misleading information, or engaging in deceptive practices.

4. Impersonation: Impersonating any person or entity, including but not limited to Companion staff or Discord administrators.

5. Bypassing Security Measures: Attempting to bypass or circumvent any security measures or restrictions put in place by the Bot or Discord.

6. Malicious Activities: Engaging in activities that could harm or disrupt the Bot or the Discord service, including but not limited to viruses, malware, or denial-of-service attacks.

7. Illegal Activities: Using the Bot to engage in any illegal activities, including but not limited to fraud, trafficking of illegal substances, or any other conduct that violates applicable laws.

8. Adherence to Discord Policies: All users of the Bot must adhere to and enforce all Discord policies. Companion will not tolerate any behavior that violates Discord's Terms of Service or Community Guidelines.

4. Data Privacy and Security

• User Responsibility: You are responsible for the security of your Discord account and must take appropriate measures to protect your account information.

• Data Sharing: You acknowledge that all interactions with the Bot are logged and may be shared with third-party AI service providers in accordance with the Privacy Policy.

5. Developer Liability

• Limited Liability: The developers of the Companion bot are not responsible for the content or behavior of independent servers using the Bot. Each server owner is solely responsible for ensuring compliance with this Acceptable Use Policy and Discord policies.

• Indemnification: By using the Bot, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless the developers and any affiliated parties from claims resulting from your misuse of the Bot.

6. Enforcement

Companion reserves the right to monitor user activity and enforce this Acceptable Use Policy. Violations of this Policy may result in:

• Temporary or permanent suspension of access to the Bot
• Reporting to Discord for further action
• Legal action where applicable

7. Changes to the Policy

Companion reserves the right to modify this Acceptable Use Policy at any time. Users will be notified of changes through the GitHub repository where the Bot is hosted. Your continued use of the Bot after any modifications will constitute your acceptance of the updated Policy.
