Briefly, it depends on if you want it site wide or for a few pages.

1. Set your config item 'uri_protocol' to 'PATH_INFO'.

$config['uri_protocol'] = "PATH_INFO";

2. Use this line to rebuild the $_GET array (in your controller)

parse_str($_SERVER['QUERY_STRING'],$_GET);
