Advanced Research Computing Technology Services : Licensed Software - Support

The process for adding or removing users to/from VASP is handled by James (or Bennet if James is not available) The process entails the following:

  1. The PI emails [email protected] and cc's https://arc-ts.umich.edu/software/vasp/[email protected] and asks for a user to be added.

1a) If a user is to be removed, the admins at VASP will email us directly indicating a user should be removed from a license.

  1. Once the VASP admins approve an addition or removal the user will need to be added or removed from the vasp5 group on either Great Lakes, Lighthouse, or both.

  2. A copy of the ticket with the add/remove request is made in to a pdf and saved to be added to the Vasp page on BitBucket via Git by James or Bennet.

  3. Once the Vasp page on BitBucket has been updated the original ticket is then responded to letting the requestor know the user change has been completed.

ansysem (HFSS)

The HFSS is module is called ansysem, and is only available on gl-campus-login.arc-ts.umich.edu.

Comsol>

Comsol has a special license so users are required to run it from flux-campus-login.arc-ts.umich.edu.  Our license does not support parallel usage.

On-Campus-Only Nodes

Some softwares with restrictive licenses are only accessible while logged into gl-campus-login.arc-ts.umich.edu.  Researchers at Dearborn campus can't ssh into campus-login nodes unless they obtain a static IP address for their lab machine, and we add their IP address to our firewall.  The restrictions on the campus-login nodes are subject to change; IP addresses that we add to the campus-access-only firewall may be removed in the future.  We also cannot guarantee that all U of M researcher will be able to access the campus-login nodes.  Exceptions to the campus-login rules should be handled on a case-by-case basis.

To access the campus-login nodes from Dearborn, the user must obtain a static IP address for their lab computer.  This is a boilerplate message you can send them:

To begin, get the name of the computer from the white tag that should be on
UMD supplied computers.  Then go to
https://umdearborn.edu/offices/information-technology-services
In the left-hand side pane, click the last item, "Submit a Ticket".  From there, select the category "Office Computer, Device & Printing Support",
then select the category, "Computer and Device Support", then select the service "Software Installation".
On the right-hand side of that page, click on "Request Service".

Fill out the form like so: Title: Request > fixed IP address for office computer Description: I would like to request a fixed IP address for my office computer named .  The administrators at the UM Ann Arbor campus require that this be a network address permanently associated with a physical location on the UM Dearborn campus which is a requirement of the
software license I will be using on the cluster to which I connect.  They will add my office computer to their firewall rules, so I can connect to the Ann Arbor cluster and run jobs. Please let me know what that IP address is and when I need to reboot my computer to have it take effect.
