Community Issue - prworigami/kusudama GitHub Wiki

Permission and copyright are sensitive words in origami community. There is an ambiguous level of originality, trivial design, or fair use in creative origami. For some little problem, there is no one willing to sue you in court because of high lawyer fee. However, they can get angry and attack you in social media. Please be careful.

Credit

There are 4 possibilities:

  1. It is my design, and I say it is my design.
  2. It is my design, but I say it is not my design.
  3. It is not my design, and I say it is not my design.
  4. It is not my design, but I say it is my design.

For example,

  1. Fairy Ear designed by me
  2. Fairy Ear designed by Ekaterina Lukasheva
  3. Centaurea Flower designed by Ekaterina Lukasheva
  4. Centaurea Flower designed by me

Scenario A: the same structure

(1) and (3) are true,
(2) and (4) are false.
But Fairy Ear is the same structure as Centaurea Flower,
so (1)==(4) and (2)==(3), and got a problem.

I want the regulators pay attention to (2) because
The popularity of creator name may be misused.

For Fairy Ear, I give all credit to Centaurea Flower,
but (1) is still true.

Similar cases:

  • Sprout (Morion designed by Natalia Romanenko)
  • Kumiko (Carreau designed by Natalia Romanenko)
  • Lunar (Fortuna designed by Maria Vakhrusheva)
  • Overdose (Vertigo designed by Maria Vakhrusheva)

Scenario B: credit to different artist

For example,

  • kawaii pastime writes Regenbogen designed by Maria Vakhrusheva,
but the video is a tutorial of Shuriken designed by Prw.

I will not disturb kawaii pastime to tell that it is my design,
but I wrote about it on my X account.

Scenario C: did not ask for permission

I add a variation but did not ask for a permission to make YouTube videos.

For example,

  • Maleficent a variation of Daffodil designed by Meenakshi Mukerji.
  • Joseph a variation of Josephine designed by Natalia Romanenko.
  • Mystic Sunflower a variation of Mystic Flower designed by Ekaterina Lukasheva.

I am not sure how to deal with this issue.
Should I pay for copyright fee? And how much?

Scenario D: false claim

For example,

  • Mayom is Regenbogen designed by Maria Vakhrusheva.
  • Unicorn is Bascetta Star.
  • Wrap petal is Windflower designed by Vladimir Frolov.
  • Hyacinth is Hypericum designed by Vladimir Frolov.
  • Namwaan is no name designed by Natalia Romanenko.

I refuse to give credits.

Scenario E: change model name

For example,

  • Triple Gem (Sonobe Unit)
  • Spoon (Sunshine)
  • Chompoo (Rafaelita Curl)
  • Chanomyen (Three Sisters of Cherry Blossom)
  • Cheese (Three Blades Pinwheel)

I think work name is not serious as long as proper credits written in the description.
But it is serious, so I cannot add work I did not design.

Permission

There are 4 possibilities:

  1. you ask for a permission, and creator allow.
  2. you ask for a permission, but creator not allow.
  3. you not ask for a permission, but creator allow.
  4. you not ask for a permission, and creator not allow.

It depends on creator policy.
Some creators always allow.
Some creators always not allow.
Some creators are (1) and (4).
Some creator are (2) and (3).

Maybe I am type (2) and (3), but I usually always allow.
