FAQ - project-ecc/ecc-wiki GitHub Wiki
How can I buy ECC?
Right now you can buy ECC through coinexchange.io. We recommend using LTC or ETH to transfer to coinexchange (if possible) since the transfer fees are much lower than BTC's.
Is it safe to leave my coins on the exchange?
If you want to be as safe as possible, no. The exchange can be hacked or go down for unforeseeable reasons.
Where will my coins be if not on the exchange?
In ECC's own wallet. Guide here on how to install it.
How can I get the coins out of the exchange?
After you install the wallet an address will be generated for you. Go to the receive
panel in the sidebar, click the address, which the wallet will copy to your clipboard. If you have multiple ones, then select whichever you want. You have control over all the addresses that show up in that table. Go to this page, select actions-> withdrawal ECC
, enter the amount, your address and your password. You don't need to be synced to the blockchain to receive coins, your coins will be displayed in your balance after you are synced.
What do I need to do to see the ECC I transferred off the exchange?
You need to be in sync with the blockchain. If Lynx shows you are 100% synced then your ECC will show up in your balance automatically.
How long does it take to receive my ECC?
If you are synced to the blockchain it should take under a minute for your ECC to show up in the transactions
panel. It will first show up as pending
, after which the transaction will be confirmed
. The whole process should take under 1 min. If you are not synced to the blockchain you can check the blockexplorer. Input your address in the input box and check if the coins have been received by that address.
When will you be listed on other exchanges?
Soon. We are actively working on it.
What is a realistic price that could be achieved by ECC?
No one knows. Do not invest any money you are not willing to lose. That is true for ECC as it is for any investment you ever make in life. We can guarantee we are doing our best to reach as many people as possible with an easy to use product.
How can I mine ECC?
You can't. We moved from PoW (Proof of Work) to PoS (Proof of Stake).
What is staking?
Staking is like earning interest on the coins you hold. It is used as a mechanism to confirm transactions and you earn ECC for doing so.
How much can I earn with staking?
Since we've reached our total supply of ECC (25 billion ECC) staking isn't as rewarding as it once was. However, once the network becomes active with the addition of services and adoption staking will become more rewarding, as more transfers happen.
If I stake, when will I get my ECC back?
After 50 confirmations your ECC returns to your wallet.
Was there an ICO?
No.
How many coins are in circulation?
Theoretically 25 billion, although some of them were lost due to MintPal's scandal and some people have simply forgotten about ECC and no longer have access to their private keys.
Are you going to burn coins?
No, unless you are willing to give us your private keys.
Who gets the transaction fees?
Transactions fees are destroyed, which is what allows people to be rewarded for staking (total supply goes down momentarily and people are rewarded).
How many devs are working for ECC?
5 and we also have quite a few people dedicated to marketing that will help take the project further. Active marketing will happen after the website is live. Which is scheduled to happen by the end of January.
Will there be masternodes?
There are no plans to add masternodes.
What is ANS?
Address Name Service - Like DNS. Its one of the services we will be launching to make blockchain more accessible. You will be able to associate an address with a regular nickname, which will allow you to send ECC to a person using their nickname, or messaging someone using their nickname, or allow for a merchant to simply post his username online in order to receive a payment. Nicknames have been around for a while, we like them. You will also be able to add other fields to an ANS address, such as your email or phone number, if you decide to do so. Only the nickname will be mandatory. ANS addresses will have a cost of 0.00000005 ECC per month. If you stop paying for it then another user can use said nickname, otherwise it is exclusive to you.
What is the difference between future ECC messaging and Whatsapp?
No one will ever be able to read your messages unless you decide to show them, as only you can access them using your private key. No one will ever sell them to advertisers.
Will other developers be able to add their own services to ECC's network?
That is still just an idea we have. We will share more about this in the future.
What is ECC's goal and vision?
The goal of the project is to move the network services that exist on the internet on top of the blockchain which will make them safer. Network services are anything you use the internet for.
Tell us a little history about ECC?
This is a rather quick view of how it all happened, by griffith from bitcointalk.org when asked the same question:
"Original dev makes coin in march 2014 with 0.5% bounty --> coin goes on mintpal --> I am assuming original dev sold his stash (500 million) during peak mintpal times of about 10 satoshi --> coin breaks and basically dies due to forking (I think there were about 7 or 8 forks at the time) --> I see the coin and said to myself I've been gpu mining btc/ltc for a while, since I'm going to school for software engineering I think i could make a go at this whole coin dev thing --> I spend about 2-5 months testing fixes and trying to fix the forks in this coin, in that time I learned a lot on how the blockchain actually works --> eventually I fix the coin --> mintpal goes belly up and everything goes quiet for a while --> I get the coin listed on bleutrade --> I try for about 8 or 9 months (if not a little longer) to successfully make a wallet that can run multiple coins locally simultaneously and find out that due to the way the coins load, this consumes a ton of memory and doesn't scale at all --> quiet for a few more months where I'm working on helping some coins run by other teams and learning more about bitcoins built in script language as well as keys and cryptography in general, during this time I took a few classes at university on cryptography. --> quiet over last summer because I went to work for a startup company in the western united states that wanted to use blockchain to make a payment system. was really busy with that. It didn't work out. company now gone. --> came back and said ok, I know a lot about this now. I think i can actually take a coin and be innovative with it. --> started to actively develop this again with new features planned and such.
TL;DR took over this coin after original dev left. spent a long time becoming experienced in blockchain tech. decided to actively develop this coin again.""
Nice. What about some exciting piece of text as this was all rather boring?
As ECC is the next generation of data processing, we successfully created a revolutionary multi-chain system to start with. With an interlinked currency chain, this open-source platform enables developers to add new services based on market demand and practical needs, without losing the great speed of transactions. Our first success in making the system user friendly is the “Address Name Service”. This feature enables you to look someone up as you would do in a typical messaging application. Search a nickname, as opposed to having to copy/paste addresses, and use one of ECC’s services like decentralized messaging or currency wiring. Encrypted & decentralized File Storage is one of the other services that will be available too. We are also very focused on user experience which hopefully will be shown in the upcoming version of the wallet.
