Windows 7 upgrade and the return of xfce

This is the weekend I finally upgrade my little guy's Dell 530 from Vista 32-bit to Windows 7 64-bit. Oh yeah, do the good times roll here at Casa Lembo. Also switched back to xfce 4 on my personal Scientific Linux 6 workstation from gnome 2. Just because. Well, that last is probably uncalled for. I actually set up xfce 4 on this machine over a year ago and have bounced back and forth between gnome 2 for awhile -- mostly running gnome until I couldn't stand it any more and then switching back when I ran into something I was too lazy to do in xfce. But the spartan style of xfce really appeals to me, and almost a day into a marathon install fest with Windows 7 has been a real aid to my efforts not to go completely insane. There's a review of xfce in the last Linux Action Show. Postscript: Now into week 2 (or is it 3?) after The Big Upgrade to Windows 7 and things are going well. Only wrinkle was that the Minecraft binaries the little guy was using were 32-bit java and Windows, as usual, couldn't keep things straight so I wound up deleting 64-but java entirely and leaving things on 32-bit. Not a big deal since the workhorse web browser for our Windows machines, Firefox, doesn't come in 64-bit for Windows yet. And xfce on Linux still rocks.
