Learning Oracle Access Manager

Among the many neglected items on my task list is one reminding me to learn Oracle’s Access Manager (OAM) product.

Some notes on documentation and downloads follow after the jump.

OAM is a Single Sign-On (SSO) solution acquired by Oracle with its takeover of Oblix. In the last 10g version (10.1.4.3.0) it is usually installed along with its companion Identity Manager, WebPass and Policy Manager (actually the latter two are installed before Access Manager) products. Agents called WebGates sit on remote web servers to intercept connections to protected urls.

The documentation for OAM 10g version can be found here.

The latest version, OAM 11g, has been re-written as a J2EE program (the original Oblix product was written in C++) to run on Oracle’s Weblogic 11g application server.

Major changes in OAM 11g are covered best in this article up on the Online Apps DBA site.

Some other good articles related to the product:

Step-by-Step Installation of OAM, OIM, etc is a series of articles on installing 11g Fusion Middleware components including OAM.

Agents in OAM 11g WebGate

OAM 11g is part of the latest Oracle Access and Identity Management mega-download, found here.

A major prerequisite to installing OAM 11g is Oracle’s Weblogic 11g, here’s the link to the latest generic version suitable for running on 64-bit Linux.

Omnibus documentation for 11g Identity Management, including OAM, is here.

Weblogic 11g documentation is here.
