Killing me softly

The headline says it all:

CIA used ‘illegal, inaccurate code to target kill drones’
‘They want to kill people with software that doesn’t work’

Perhaps the height (or depth?) of hubris. Power-hungry and incompetent intellegence “executives” at the CIA, aided and abetted by program manager drones, cajole a greedy and incompetent private consulting firm into stealing faulty code from a (possibly, somewhat principaled) software firm for use in targetting “enemies of the United States”.

For some strange reason many of the calculations are a little off, from 1 to 13 metres.

One to thirteen meters.

While peasants in Central Asia and other places where that kind of discrepancy has or may have deadly results will probably have no legal recourse, at least the company whose code was stolen does. As the article relates it they’re now prosecuting a lawsuit against the CIA’s consultants

Ah, another day at the office.
