OpenSSO is now OpenAM, Under New Management

Well, that didn’t take long. A few months into Oracle’s ownership of all things Sun it appears that OpenSSO has been exposed out on the proverbial rock Roman-style. Fortunately Sun had open sourced the code awhile ago, opening up the opportunity for someone to take hold and fork the project: something which a company called Forge Rock has just done.

Forge Rock is a Norwegian company apparently made up of some former Sun employees with expertise in several Sun open sourced identity management products.

OpenAM is the new fork of OpenSSO being sponsored by Forge Rock.

This is good news because OpenSSO is the first open source SSO product that’s had any kind of mind share over the years, and it would have been a shame if it had been allowed to die in the obscurity of Oracle’s portfolio of neglected apps (about the only thing worse would have been if it had been bought by CA).
