These are notes for another day.

GNU Mailman is one of the better open source mail list managers out there. It’s used by … almost everyone.

Postfix is the preferred MTA, as it should be.

Mailman comes with a built-in non-searchable mail archive manager called pipermail. Most sites use pipermail for their archives and are happy with it. Unfortunately, in addition to not providing search, Pipermail also doesn’t handle MIME encoded messages well (your bargain variety HTML formatted e-mail).

There are two external mail archivers that can address the MIME encoding issue:

MHonArc
Hypermail

While there are RHEL/CentOS packages for mailman, as far as I can tell there aren’t any for either MHonArc or Hypermail.

For integrating with MHonArc, there’s this old thread (from 2001).

Wasn’t able to find much on integrating Hypermail. It’s not as popular as MHonArc, apparently.
