Read-only Google Calendar in Evolution
This is just a transition phase. The real goal is to be able to read and edit Google Calendar from within Evolution, although so far it looks like a lost cause.
Here’s how to set up read-only access to Google Calendar from within Evolution:
1. Open Evolution and create a new calendar. “File… New … Calendar.
2. From drop-down select “On the Web” and paste your private ICAL url into the URL window, replacing “http://” from Google with the default “webcal://” in Evolution.
(This private url can be retrieved by right-clicking and copying the ICAL link alongside “Private Address” on the Google Calendar “Settings” page for the calendar you want to view.)
3. Give the calendar a name (”Google Calendar”?) , add your Google ID (full gmail address) as the username, and click OK to create the calendar.
4. Select the new calendar object for viewing and switch to a view (like “Show one week”) that’s most likely to show a bunch of entries that are up on Google but not in any of your local Evolution calendars.
