Troubleshooting the OID - EBS sync in an integrated environment

The official documentation on troubleshooting the problems with the integration of EBS with the middle tier for both 11i (Metalink note 295606.1) and R12 (Metalink note 380487.1), while detailed, tend to get you lost because of the workflow paradigm they follow (that said, the note for R12 was updated only a few days ago and shows such significant improvement that I encourage anyone who works in either an 11i or R12 environment to re-read it).

For an well written, concrete, discussion, take a look at User created in Apps 11i/R12/12i not sync to OID by Atul Kumar of the Online Apps DBA site. The overview Atul provides of the whole process is the clearest presentation I’ve seen to date.

This short paragraph, for example, is worth its weight in gold:

User creation process flow (Apps to OID)
1. You create user in Apps and profile option APPS_SSO_IDENTITY & APPS_LDAP_SYNC is enabled

2. DBMS_LDAP will check in OID for password policy (to check, if password supplied during user creation meets password policy at OID)

3. User creation will create business events in Oracle Apps

4. ODISRV (Oracle Directory Integration Server) will check if any provisioning profile is enabled to pull data from Apps.

5. OID provisioning server will consume business events from Apps (11i/R12)
