x86_64 Ubuntu, Firefox and some "experimental" plugins

This is just a brief follow-up to my continuing work with 64-bit Firefox on Ubuntu x86_64 and the “experimental” 64-bit plugins that have been released for Linux. The state of things today is…

As of around 20:00 ET today I’m now running entirely 64-bit.

The flash plugin for x86_64 Linux has been out for awhile (released 11/17/08), and worked without a problem for me from the very beginning. Starting with the Early Access release of JRE 1.6.0_12 (released 12/22/08), Sun’s Java plugin also has delivered on its promise of long ago. Now, finally, those of us who spend a bit of time accessing content from C-SPAN and the BBC, among other sites, can use a 64-bit version of both Real Player and its associated plugin to do so. The precise version I’m running is 11.1.1.1388, released through Helix Community Downloads on 01/15/09. And it works.

Yippee.
