Error when adding users to VMware 2.0 on RHEL 5

Not sure if this is a RHEL/CentOS specific issue with VMware Server 2.0, but during post install configuration I kept getting an error when trying to assign privileges to more than 2 users, forcing me to dive into the .xml files for the solution.

When the software is installed the system root user is assigned the Administrator role by default. I was able to add one additional user through VI Web Access, but when I tried to add another kept getting one of those really ugly, yet uninformative, error messages that VMware is so famous for, specifically:

The server response included one or more errors.
Details
RuntimeFault: Database temporarily unavailable or has network problems.

It turned out that for some reason the software wasn’t incrementing the parameter, and so was trying to reassign a role ID that was already in use.

Anyway, going into /etc/vmware/hostd/authorization.xml and manually incrementing from 10 to 11 did the trick, and I was able to add users and roles with impunity after that.

This problem is discussed in an archived article (originally in German) from VMware Communities that you can read by going to this link.
