This is really terrific software! I was turned on to it by a developer who was working with my company as a consultant for a short time. We used it to do some collaboration (he was in Denver, I was in NC) and I decided to try it out with my Dad at some point. After Dad purchased a new PC from Dell a couple of weeks ago, the need to help him out with some configuration changes provided the perfect opportunity for this software to prove it’s worth.

If nothing else, logmein made the task much less painful that it could have been. I’ve never had the gift of being able to walk people through complex tasks over the phone, making me the absolute worst person to have doing first level support. With the inter-network remote control feature of this software I was able to go in and take over Dad’s desktop and complete the work in minutes.

The logmein server service needed to allow a machine to be taken over only installs on Windows, but the web browser client used to control a remote Windows box running the service uses Java, so it can be operated from any PC, including openjdk 1.6 on Linux.
