This mode lets you place the 32x32 tiles on the map. The action of placing is pretty self-explanatory, but there are some important things you need to know.

About sectors

EB's maps are sorted into 8x4 regions called sectors. A sector can only have one configuration for its tileset and palette, and sectors that don't share the configuration with the one you're currently standing in won't show up on the map (instead, they will be filled with tile 0). There are more properties to sectors, but you can learn about those on the page for sector mode.

Sectors are still pretty important to tile mode which is why you can manage a little bit about them here. Right click on the map to select a sector, which is indicated by the glowing yellow rectangle. Hold Ctrl and do the same to select multiple, and right click twice to select the entire region sharing the configuration. Once you choose a tileset, palette group, and palette on the sidebar, you can press "Quick Save to Sector" to update it.

Placing tiles

Other than sectors, it's all pretty straightforward. Left click to place tiles! You can even hold it and drag to paint many at once. On the sidebar you can choose the tile you want to place. You can pick a tile on the map by Ctrl+clicking on it.

Keep in mind that the tile you place will still obey the sector configuration it's in. To make sure the sidebar matches what you want to place, Ctrl+click on a tile in the sector you want to edit, or select sectors with right click.

Tips

  • It's handy to use the grid in this mode. Use Ctrl+G to toggle it. You can choose between four grid styles in the View menu.
  • If you want to see the numerical ID of tiles, use Ctrl+T to toggle this.
  • Don't forget to zoom in and out for a better view.
