Thin client - pflavio/Dell-Wyse-5070-Home-Server GitHub Wiki
The base of my new home server will be a thin client by Dell, the Dell Wyse 5070 (model/type N11D001). I have bought mine used off of eBay for around 90 Euro including shipping. These machines were generally leased to coporate clients for a few yeats and have been tested and refurbished before being sold. The BIOS showed it was manufactured and first used in 2020, so at the time of writing it was around three years old.
The specs are as follows:
- Intel Pentium J5005 (Quad Core 1.5GHz)
- 4 GB RAM DDR4
- 16 GB eMMC Flash
- Gigabit Ethernet port (just one in case you were wondering about pfSense)
- Other ports: 3 x USB 2.0 (2 front, 1 internal), 6 x USB 3.0 (1 front, 4 rear, 1 int), 1 x USB 3.2 Type C Power Delivery and DisplayPort (front), 3 x DisplayPort 1.2a)
- no OS (Not important as I want to install Unraid anyway.)
- including charger (This is important because some machines are sold without a charger, so check before buying in case you need to get one. Genuine Dell chargers tend to be quite pricey, but there are USB-C converters available so you can use a spare charger in case you have one.)
The machine is super compact (about the size of a large Fritzbox) at 184 mm x 35,6 mm x 184 mm.
