Cave Generation & Structures - pexulsreal/glowrootissues GitHub Wiki
The main and most important addition within the Glowroot Mod, the new world generation, which includes the new overworld cave biome, the
Glowroot Caves
The Glowroot caves generate in somewhat rare instances, similar to lush caves. However, the caves themselves can be very large in range, and expand for multiple chunks. You’re more likely to find them beneath regular biomes, like forests and plains, as well as under ocean biomes. It usually starts generating around Y=30, and can sometimes be spotted via large ravines on the surface.
If mining underground nearby a Glowroot cave biome, you’ll be able to determine by large chunks of glowroot stone that replaces the regular stone. These large glowroot stone chunks generate more commonly in deepslate level. Usually the radius of these chunks can range from 6 blocks, to 12.
When entering the actual biome, the music’s ambient sounds will automatically play, offering a eerie contrast to the brightness of the cave itself.
In more large open areas of the biome, you’ll be able to come across glowrooted stone, a copy of glowroot stone with light green chrysoprase lined across the top to make it glow. Walking on top of it will emit glow particles. You’ll also start to find most of the mod’s flora start to generate commonly in open areas. The flora generation is based off node-power.
The main flora, being Glowroot Vines, generates along the roof within the caves. It can generate up to a maximum vertical distance of 5 blocks max, and usually they generate in large, grouped chunks, rather than being spread throughout the entire biome. These generate relatvely frequently, being found in almost every chunk.
Within the biome, you can sometimes spot small piles of Glowroot Leaf/Petal blocks littered along the ground. These small bushes generate around 1-2 times per 1-2 chunks.
Along with the occasional leaf bushes, you can find small water pools/lakes within the caves. They're noticeable via the surrounding border being only formed with Glowroot Stone, rather than it being Glowrooted Stone. these generate less frequently, being once every 2-3 chunks.
Theres a few structures that generate within the cave, being seperated into two categories: Natural structures, and Facilities. (Do note that these structures CANNOT be found via /locate. Reccomemded to use /place feature in order to get a good look at the structures. Make sure the placement conditions are similar to how they are placed naturally.)
There are two natural structures that spawn within the biome as of 1.0.8.3: Rooted Garlands, and Chrysoprase Chunks.
(NOTE THAT MOST OF THE PICTURES BELOW WERE TAKEN IN A GLOWROOT-ONLY WORLD.)
Rooted Garlands
Rooted Garlands are depictable by these large rings of rooted wood that burst out of the ground and back in, forming a sort of semi-spherical pattern on the surface. There are three main variations, differing in rotation, shape, and size. The actual garland uses both Rooted Wood and Rooted Log blocks, as well as some Pure Glowroot blocks on the top. The garland itself actuallly connects beneath the ground, supplying players with more Rooted wood.
Chrysoprase Chunks
Chrysoprase Chunks are small formations found within the cave that consist of Blocks of Chrysoprase, Budding Chrysoprase, and 4 variating stages of budded Chrysoprase crystal blocks. There are three main variations, each having different shapes, sizes, and budding crystals on them. The chunk is burried slightly into the ground, allowing for multiple blocks of Chrysoprase to be used by the player for progression.
Now, moving onto the Facility structures. There are currently three facilitated structures within the biome as of 1.0.8.3: Nodes, Forgeries, and Research Facilities.
Nodes
Starting off with Nodes, being the most common Facility structure to find. It’s relatively difficult to spot due to its small 3x3 size, and it’s blend into the colors of the wall. The structure itself is fairly simple, being a Glowroot Node built into the ground, along with some nice building blocks to make it pretty. Beneath the Glowroot Node are about 10 blocks of Unpure Chrysoprase, acting as a very useful start for early progression.
Forgeries
Forgeries are larger structures, resembling a slight similarity to Nodes, with a similar design on the surface. Each forgery could be easily spotted due to the large cannisters of Unpure Chrysoprase that stick out of the ground. Each forgery has a small stairway entrance, leading to a small room, consisting of a Glowroot Machine. Each forgery has two alarms to the side of the entrance, so be careful when entering. To the sides of the room it has two of the cannisters leading from the surface that charge the machine. There are also a few rooted-wood tables to the sides of the room, and some Glowroot Carts with loot. In the top right corner of the forgery room is a small vent leading to a basement underneath the machine, with another cart, and a chained block of Pure Chrysoprase.
Research Facilities
Research Facilities are the most difficult structure to locate, as they blend into the ground. They can mainly be depicted by the two front entrances, which require a Artificial-1 key to open the doors. The top of the facility has a small chrysoprase chunk, which, inside the facility, expands massively, revealing the true size of the crystal formation. Surrounding the chunk on the inside are a few flat grates, used to walk around the room. Theres a few carts with loot along the walls, some decoration with Chrysoprase buikding blocks, a rooted wood table, and a Glowrooted rune. A small ladder next to the chrysoprase building blocks leads to underneath the panels and to the edge of the crystal chunk. Another small secret vent can be found there, leading to a small ruined room, dedicated to one piece of Glowroot TNT, held together by chains. There’s another rooted wood table covered by rubble, and another cart with loot inside.
