It feels like I have been away forever, but the fort looks a lot like I left it two seasons ago. I've been elected to run the fortress for yet a half year, so obviously the inhabitants liked what I started, or the last guy did'nt understand what the hell I had done, and could'nt handle my design and gave up. Works for me in any case. I'm back for more.
I arrive at the fortress and is met by a wall and a retractable bridge. Nice going with the security, I thought while walking in throught the totally unguarded and unwalled trade depot. I should prioritize walling in the trade depot too, and also fix that drawbridge.
Walking down the stairs, things look alot like I left it, at least with the basic industries. I smile when i see the filled booze storage. At least there is that if things turn out bad.
At the metal industies i see Etur, some new guy running the metall industry. He was screaming something about metal bars. Hopefully some smelter is on that, or we may have to do something about Etur. He seems totally nuts, even by my standards.
I continue to descend the stairs and find some kind of larger rooms. Maybe offices? I'm going to handle the rooms as offices, whether they like it or not. The work with the giant dining room seems to go well, we just need more furniture in there.
Now the inspection is complete, and things look rather good actually. I'm relieved that they found som metal finally, and that we even have found native gold! This will make fine shiny statues and crafts. We should totally import some steel and make a lot of great weapons and armor.
Before we start getting this mandate on, I should make a list of aims and goals for the coming two seasonbs:
High priority
- Wall in the trade depot and put in a drawbridge.
- Get some metal bars for Etur. That crazy bastard.
- Train some soldiers. Tekkud still sucks att hammering things. Especially since he does'nt even have a hammer.
- Make hammers
Lower priority
- Make expensive shit from gold, and sell it.
- Wall in a larger area at the surface so we can safely(hah) grow surface plants.

Just day two, and the metal bar problem seems to be solved. Hopefully thats all Etur needed for now. A cobold thief has been found also, but he got away. Nothing big I guess.

The walls are coming up great. The people are really effective this time around. Maybe because there are more workers, or they simply have become better at moving stuff. Someone thought moving the metal bars to the trade depot was a good idea, but I prefer them next to the metalsmith, so I told them to move the stuff back to the workshops. Etur have started working on something, so the screaming have stopped, which is a nice change. We have also started making wooden spears för the combat training. I've picked up a crazy but good idea for training our soldiers. It might work, or someone will get horribly pierced by a lot of spears.

And on the sixth day... Etur is done, and have made a really shiny golden sword, Ungegzat. I have no intentions of using it in battle, since we are going for silver hammers all around, but i't will most likely be sold very expensively, or if we can shw it of somehow. More on that later. For now, Etur has calmed down and will continue make stuff. He seems to have gotten a LOT better at smithing during this litte crazy-incident.

And looky here. Elves. Goddamned elves. Lucky for them, the drawbridge for the trading depot is not finished yet, so I guess they can come in. I will look at what they have, but I certainly don't trust them. I'll cut down a couple of more trees. Because I need more wood, and because it'll piss of the Elves.

We have mined for more gold ore, and the training room is coming up slowly but steadily. I made it large enough for 9 soldiers at a time, because go big or go home. The elves have unloaded all their stuff, so I'll will go look for what they are trading.
Well, I'm not very impressed with what they were offering, so i bought some fruit, berries and a dingo. I gave them some stone earrings in return, and they seemed happy. I think they lost this trade, but appearently they seems to like their earrings. I'll never understand elves.

Operation "huge wall" has been started, just as a tired pack of travelers arrive. They seem to be migrants from the Mountainhomes, and of course they are welcome here. We can allways need some more help, especially now when we are starting the military training soon.

We might have a problem with one of the new immigrants. At first I was happy to see that a new guy, Catten Ilnomal, is rather good with a spear. However, something is very off with him. He seems to have killed a lot of people, more than he should have even for a soldier. Rumors tell that he even killed dwarves! I don't like it! He might be a vampire, and I will not have a vampire catastrophe on my mandate! But I have a plan. Oh, he will how we handle vampires where I come from...

Now we have made a room for him, separated from the rest of the dwarves. He told me he was 124 years old, so there's no doubt in my mind that he is a vampire. I told him to build a fishing workshop in his own room. He seemed to think that that was completely normal, especially since we don't even have any fishing water. Well, the door is locked now, and we will make sure he will never leave that room. Ever. Vampire bastard.

As an experiment, the vampire is going to do the bookkeeping in his sealed room. Might work. In that case, he will be our eternal undying bookkeeper. Sucks to be him.

We have just founded our first squad: The Hammerrerers. They are hammerers. But they lack hammers and shields, which are in productions right now. Also, the large wall is up, and we are building drawbridges right now. We could start thinking about making the wall higher, and maybe planning archer towers too, to keep us safe.
