Recogito Tutorial: Creating Other Annotations - pelagios/pelagios.github.io GitHub Wiki

You can use Recogito to create annotations of entities that are not related to place. When you highlight a word in the text, and Recogito’s pop-up box appears, you will see two other options alongside the “place” button: “person” and “event”. The one difference with annotating place, however, is that when you click on either of these other options, Recogito does not yet provide the same functionality to link the annotation to external records equivalent to a gazetteer. Nevertheless, if you want to read some tips about how to disambiguate persons or events, we have suggested a quick work-around in our Recogito Tips&Tricks. In addition, you can always use tags and comments to produce interesting and useful annotations about entities that are not places. Lastly, each entity can be annotated as belonging to more than one category. So, for example, the mythical personification of a place can be annotated as both “place” and “person”.

The category assigned to the annotation is part of the information that you will be able to download when you are done with the annotation process. We will look at Download Options (for both text and images) shortly. However, you don’t need to select a category if none of these fits your needs, you can always create uncategorised annotations. If you are dealing with more than one category in the annotation of your document, you may find useful to check the Document Views available in Recogito.
