Epilogue

The ending of Hammurabi's code

Summary

After validating the authority of his rule and general fairness, Hammurabi invokes deities like Marduk, Adad, Ishtar, Enlil, and others to ask them to curse, stop, or overpower anyone who tries to alter the contents of the artifact (the basalt stele). The Epilogue's poetic and self-praising nature is indicative of language used by prior Mesopotamian rulers, and the Ancient Near East in general.
