VRX Gazebosim Port - osrf/vrx GitHub Wiki

We're happy to announce VRX will soon be switching over from Gazebo Classic to the newer Gazebo simulator (formerly Ignition Gazebo).

Key Details:

Timeline

  • The bulk of the port should be finished by the end of 2022.

After the Port

Once the port is complete:

  • the ported version of VRX will become the default;
  • the current version, based on Gazebo Classic, will be moved to the vrx_classic branch and archived;
  • the default interface will transition from ROS 1 to ROS 2;
  • tutorials and documentation will be updated to work with the ported version.

During the Port

  • We continue to review and triage all issues and pull requests.
  • However, PRs that introduce major updates or add new functionality may need to wait for final approval until the port is complete.

Status

  • The new version is currently being developed in the gazebosim branch of this repository.
  • Please be aware that this code is under active development. It may not work or may be missing key features. Support is extremely limited.
  • Users wishing to preview the ported version may follow the draft tutorials for installing and running from the gazebosim branch.
