Git Basics - oresat/oresat-structure GitHub Wiki

What Is Git?

Git is a version control system (VCS). In other words, it helps keep track of changes made to a file over time. This is especially useful for reverting files back to a previous state if new changes cause unexpected problems.

What Isn’t Git?

You may have heard of GitHub. Although Git and GitHub are related, they aren't exactly the same thing. While Git is a version control system, GitHub is a hosting service for Git repositories. In essence, Git is a tool and GitHub is a service for projects that use Git.
