30-min Research Chunks

When limited on time, these research tasks are a good place to start. Most should be able to be finished with ~30min of Dedicated effort. Remember to record your work and track your progress so that when you next have time to work you do not have to spend half the time remembering what you learned/did last time.

These Tasks will be divided based on current project focuses. I (Braden) Will do my best to add chunks to this document as you complete them, but the idea is that you will eventually learn how to create similar bite sized research plans for yourself, so please do not be afraid to create your own here. You can either use this page to record thoughts and comments, or you can use the issue board where the larger research tasks can be found.Time spent recording progress and writing your thoughts is time well spent.

Box 5 Project

  • Investigate Fuel Concentration and Salt Composition: Molten Salt Reactor Experiment @ Oakridge

    • We need to know:
      • Fuel Enrichment and type (e.g. UF4 with 95% U-235)
      • Salt Type (e.g. Flibe, Flinak or other)
      • Salt to Fuel Salt Ratio (e.g 20% UF4, 80% Flibe)
      • Full Composition Report if Possible
    • Write what you find down. See what you can find in 30 minutes. This may take a little longer than 30 minutes, but it if it is taking you any longer than an hour, set it down and ask me about it.
  • Investigate Fuel Concentration and Salt Composition: AirCraft Reactor Experiment

    • Do the same as before.
  • Investigate Fuel Concentration and Salt Composition: ACU MSRR (Natura) -Do the same as before.

  • Based on your Findings, Write a Research Plan

    • This research plan should detail which thermochimica runs we will create. (e.g. We will Investigate Salt Concentrations of UF4 from 1-35% {1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35} at temperatures from 600 - 1200 C, all at P = 1 atm. The fuel will be UF4 and the Salt Pure FLiBe) Consider Building a table if it helps.
  • Construct the needed input Files

    • Begin with a single input file. Make sure that works, then modify it to create the rest.
  • Create summary slides for Everything Done So Far
