It is an interdisciplinary filed that takes advantage of the knowledge and techniques from fields such as Engineering, Biology, Statistics, among others to acquire, analyze, store and retrieve biological data.

Why Bioinformatics?

  1. It helps in analyzing and cataloguing the biological pathways and networks that are an important part of systems biology
  2. In addition it is important in the management of biological data that is organizing and storage of the data.
  3. Furthermore, Bioinformatics through pharmacogenomics has helped in the development of more effective clinical medicine today by analyzing and take into consideration the differences that lie in the genetic profile of different individuals.
