I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest thank to my supervisor, Dr Ian Cleland, for his invaluable guidance and support throughout this research project. Dr Cleland was only too happy to discuss potential paths forward and offer critical feedback and encouragement which helped me focus my work. These conversations and the questions Dr Clelenad would ask during them would often highlight a new path forward. I am truly grateful for his unwavering support throughout this work.

I would also like to thank Nevin Molyneaux, an embedded engineer who was always happy to answer my questions and whose suggestions were gratefully received.

Finally, I would like to thank my mother, Irene, and my best friend, Níamh, who have always supported and encouraged me in everything I have done, and who would always listen when I talked about my research. These conversations always helped me clarify things.
