KMIP 3.0 Status Update

KMIP 3.0 Specification

  • Tim H uploaded WD17 of the KMIP 3.0 Spec to KMIP Spec v3.0 WD17 Markup.
  • WD17 adds the required PQC identifiers and the Encapsulate and Decapsulate operations

KMIP 3.0 Profiles/Test Cases

  • Tim H uploaded the following test cases covering the ML-KEM (FIPS 203) PQC algorithm:
  • The test cases for the ML-DSA (FIPS 204) and SLH-DSA (FIPS 205) PQC algorithms are still being worked on.
  • Noted that the various standards and SDKs are all trying to determine how to interpret the PQC algorithm standards from NIST and it appears many are still working from various test identifiers rather than the official identifiers which will make the crypto environment challenging for a time and will certainly have some implications for interoperability.

KMIP 3.0 Usage Guide

  • Judy F is continuing to work through changes to the 3.0 Specification and when 3.0 Profiles/Test Cases is stable and will work through these.

New Business

  • Public Review:
    • The current version which has been circulated for public review may need to be updated as the material for Post-Quantum Cryptographic (PQC) algorithms became available after the current draft was prepared.
    • This also leads up to the question of should we update the document to the current OASIS template as TCAdmin has some document format conversion issues with the old template as they prepared the documents for the public review.
    • Generally agreed that we may have to obtain the latest templates and apply this to the next version of the Specification and associated documents.
    • Any new version will be for the PQC material and as it will be additions and not updates to the previous material it is possible that we will not require public review to the old material.
    • Also noted that to date we have not received any comments from the current public review or if there are they have not yet been passed through.

Next Meeting

  • Next TC Meeting: October 31, 2024

Call for Additional Attendees (Greg)

  • Tony Cox
  • Bruce Rich

Motion to Adjourn

  • Tim H moves and Tim C seconds, No objections, abstentions, or comments. Meeting adjourned.
