Installing the LED reflector

Rear reflector illuminated

The rear fog light will replace the passive rear bumper reflector on the driver's side. The exLED LED Reflector comes fully assembled and an exact fit to the passive reflector. This tutorial covers the removal and installation of the reflector (again, from this excellent forum).

A small hole needs to be drilled through the plastic bumper for the wire. After that, there are periodic holes in the trunk plugged with rubber caps, including one directly under the taillights, to get the wire into the body of the car.

The exLED kit includes a small adapter to regulate the voltage and current of the LEDs down from the 12V of the car. DIY reflectors also need to calculate a resistor value. There is plenty of space under the trunk liner, so the adapter is added here before running wire up to the center console.

The wire will run under the trunk liner to the pass-through, under the rear seat cushion, and tucked under the sill plate trim to reach the driver's footwell and the location of the controller.
