The Government of Canada is committed to ensuring the re-use and portability of GC information and data across websites, and mobile devices.

Web Interoperability in the GC

Web interoperability ensures different types of devices, platforms, networks and applications work together to find, retrieve, exchange, and re-use Web content in a useful and meaningful way.

The draft Standard on Web Interoperability takes effect July 1, 2012. Departments have three years to complete implementation, by June 30, 2015. The Standard mandates four requirements providing a consistent approach for coding GC Web content, improving the Web experience and better access to GC information for Canadians via mobile devices.

Web Interoperability and Metadata

  • Standardized metadata
There are several shared GC policies linking Web interoperability and metadata:

Collaborate!

  • Web Interoperability Working Group
As part of the implementation of the Standard on Web Interoperability, a new Web Interoperability Working Group will be created in the summer 2012. Contact the Web Standards Office to express your interest!
  • Metadata Working Group
The Metadata Working Group develops GC metadata across domains (Web, search, data, e-learning) and develops metadata element sets, application profiles, and implementation guides. The Metadata WG contributes to search, interoperability and information architecture domains. For more information, contact the [Information](mailto:[email protected]) or visit the Working Group's pages on GCPEDIA: http://www.gcpedia.gc.ca/wiki/Metadata_Working_Group_-_EIA) Note: Internal GC site
